“A Study in Space &
Light: Reimagining a
Notting Hill duplex for
the Modern Era”
This top-floor duplex near Portobello Road has been transformed into a study in light, materiality, and spatial clarity. The original layout — four bedrooms and a single bathroom — was reconfigured into a more considered three-bedroom, two-bathroom plan, enhancing both functionality and flow.
The former mansard loft was removed and rebuilt, introducing bespoke frameless aluminium sliding doors at the front and a seamless angled window that elegantly extends to rear doors, opening onto a private terrace. The design deliberately blurs interior and exterior, inviting natural light to animate the living spaces and offering framed glimpses of the vibrant streets below.
Materials are deployed with restraint yet richness: exposed brick, solid oak flooring, and marble surfaces create a calm, tactile backdrop that reflects the eclectic character of the neighbourhood. Every junction — from terrace to living space, from detail to vista — has been considered, resulting in a home that feels both rooted in its context and entirely of the present.
